  • Carries out research-related activities that involve the assessment and continual monitoring of the compatibility of domestic law (Scots and UK) with those treaties and charters originating from the Council of Europe and the United Nations, and other international treaties and conventions which have been ratified by the UK.

  • Identifies the impact such laws, charters and treaties have had on Scottish heritage and culture over time, and raises awareness of possible future impact on Scottish heritage and culture should existing laws be amended or repealed, or new ones introduced.

  • Translates these research findings into a range of educational resources and activities.

  • Raises awareness amongst the public of what rights they have as Scottish citizens, the origins of these rights in international treaties, charters and conventions that have been ratified by the UK, any threats to rights currently enjoyed should existing laws be amended or repealed, or new ones introduced, and any opportunities that may arise to enhance these rights.

  • Advocates on behalf of the Scottish public to ensure the rights currently enjoyed by them continue to be upheld and assured, in accordance with those Council of Europe and United Nations treaties and charters, and other international treaties and conventions that have been ratified by the UK, and highlight any rights to which Scots should be entitled but are not presently enjoying.
